Cardiac catheterization is a procedure to determine how well the heart works. It is performed to find out if a patient has problems or disease of the heart muscle, valves or arteries. During cardiac catheterization, a long thin tube is inserted into a blood vessel that leads to the heart. Once the catheter is in place, several tests may be done.
