LINX magnetic sphincter augmentation

The newest treatment for reflux uses a ring of magnetic beads, called LINX, in a minimally invasive surgery.

The doctor implants a ring of these beads where the esophagus meets the stomach. At this spot is the lower esophageal sphincter, a valve that is supposed to prevent food from backing up from the stomach into the esophagus. In reflux patients, this valve doesn’t work properly, so stomach acid rises into the esophagus, causing pain and tissue damage.
