Advanced Movement Disorder Therapies
Being diagnosed with a movement disorder can be full of unknowns. Our team has specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment for a range of movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia. Our team offers a range of procedural options, including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and Focused Ultrasound (FUS). No two movement disorders are the same, so we create a personalized care plan to meet your individual needs.

Why Choose Advanced Movement Disorder Therapies at Vanderbilt
- Experience and recognized care
We were one of the first and remain one of the highest volume DBS centers in the country. Our specialized multidisciplinary team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, neurophysiologists, anesthesiologists and physical therapists have pioneered innovative technologies to make DBS more accurate, safe and effective.
- Advanced treatment and technology
Our team offers focused ultrasound (FUS), an incisionless procedure, to help with immediate improvement in tremor disorders or in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. FUS is performed in an outpatient setting with outstanding results, reduced risk of infection and increased convenience for patients who qualify.
- Personalized care
Our program coordinator will guide you through every step of the experience. The nurse case manager can answer any questions about medications, discuss follow-up care, connect you with support groups and provide educational resources. Together, the team will work to create a treatment plan specifically designed for you.
- Recognized care
In addition to our status as a national leader in using DBS and FUS to treat movement disorders, we’re also recognized as a national Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence. Each year, we treat more than 100 patients who have Parkinson’s disease — using advanced therapies to provide relief from their symptoms.
- Clinical trials
Because we are part of an academic medical center, we offer access to some of the most promising new treatments and therapies being tested in clinical trials. Participating in a clinical trial is always optional. Find a clinical trial.
