Melinda Bailes is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 20 years experience. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from the University of Texas. Melinda came to Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a member of the inpatient Oncology team and helped develop the Palliative Care Program. She is a full-time palliative care social worker, providing support and grief counseling to patients and families, and play therapy to children dealing with end-of-life issues. She also assists the team in providing education and training for graduate nursing and medical students and serves as chair for the graduate social work internship program at Vanderbilt.
Before coming to Vanderbilt, Melinda served concurrently as Executive Director of the Epilepsy Association and Vice President of Comprehensive Rehab Services for Tarrant County Easter Seal Society in Ft. Worth, Texas. After relocating to Tennessee, she worked in stroke and brain injury rehabilitation at Centennial Medical Center and Pi Beta Phi Rehab Institute and provided individual, group and family therapy, as well as, administrative, teaching and supervisory support. Melinda has also worked as Coordinator of Field Services for the University of Tennessee College of Social Work, MSSW Program in Nashville, providing curriculum and program development, graduate course instruction and overall coordination of graduate intern training and placement.
