Athletes at all levels are vulnerable to concussion, yet every athlete is different and so is every head injury. The Sports Concussion Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center offers baseline concussion testing, evaluation and treatment for athletes of all ages. Our specialists combine their expertise to treat all aspects of your concussion so you can return to play sooner and safer.

Vanderbilt has the only sports concussion center in Tennessee staffed by specially trained sports medicine doctors, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, physical and occupational therapists, and certified athletic trainers. Our team has the expertise and technology to manage all aspects of your concussion care, starting with baseline concussion testing and extending to evaluation and treatment.
  • Highly trained specialists. Our board-certified doctors have received advanced training to diagnose and treat sports concussions. Many of our specialists have completed additional training in sports concussion programs throughout Major League Baseball, the National Football League and the National Hockey League.   • Baseline and post-concussion testing. Vanderbilt is the only clinic in Tennessee offering comprehensive, validated baseline testing for athletes ages 5 and older. We recommend athletes have a pre-season baseline test every 1 to 2 years, depending on their age. Our baseline tests and post-concussion ImPACT tests are offered at locations around Middle Tennessee under expert supervision. Our experts serve on the Concussion in Sport Group, which is an international team of physicians who write the standard of care for sports concussion treatment worldwide. They also serve on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Pediatric Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Guideline Workgroup.
  • Advancing research in concussion treatment. Our team is at the forefront of sports-related head injury research, both pre- and post-concussion. We identify and study unique variables that influence concussion management and recovery so we can offer you the latest, evidence-based treatment options.
