Pregnancy Care and Delivery

At the Vanderbilt Center for Women's Health, we are honored to celebrate pregnancy and childbirth with you. Our comprehensive care team works with you to choose the right option for your prenatal care and delivery, based on your unique needs.

Regular prenatal care helps to ensure the health of you and your baby during this special time. As part of your prenatal care, our care team follows the growth and development of your baby. We also provide counseling and guidance to help you prepare for motherhood.

Pregnancy Care and Delivery: Why Choose Vanderbilt

  • Your birth, your way: We offer a wide range of prenatal care and birth options, so you can choose the right pregnancy experience for you. If your pregnancy is low-risk, you may request our hydrotherapy (water immersion) tubs in advance or nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help ease your pain during labor.
  • Tailored care: We recognize that each pregnancy is unique. That’s why our team of board-certified obstetricians, certified nurse-midwives and nurse practitioners work with you to develop a personalized care plan.
  • Family-centered care. You and your baby will be cared for as a pair by one nurse who is focused on your health and well-being. This family-centered approach, called couplet care, enhances communication among your care team and facilitates bonding between you and your baby.
  • High-risk pregnancy care: If challenges arise during your pregnancy, we consult with our maternal-fetal medicine specialists to ensure you have a healthy pregnancy and delivery. Together, we develop a personalized care plan for you and your baby.
  • Recognized care: The Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children’s Hospital provides the highest designated level of neonatal care in Tennessee. This comprehensive care team has the expertise and experience to care for the most complex and critically ill newborns.
  • Empowerment and support: We offer a variety of classes and support services. These classes and services can help you take an active, more prepared role in your pregnancy, delivery and early parenthood.
  • Convenient care locations: We offer care at three hospitals and half a dozen clinics across Greater Nashville. You can find compassionate, expert care closer to home.
  • Access to specialists: Vanderbilt is one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, with some of the top specialists in the country. Beyond our experienced team, you have access to other doctors at Vanderbilt and Children’s Hospital who received extensive training in their specialties.
