Vanderbilt has pioneered surgical techniques to treat head and neck conditions and vocal cord paralysis. For example, Vanderbilt is one of only a few medical centers where surgeons perform a delicate, advanced surgery to remove rare tumors called vagal schwannomas — while preserving nerve function in the head and neck.

Our surgeons are not only deeply invested in improving healthcare for you, but also for communities around the world. Members of our team regularly participate in medical mission trips to Haiti, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria and other nations to help people in need. During these trips, they teach local doctors to perform a variety of procedures to ensure continuity of patient care even after they return home.
