Adolescent Partial Hospitalization
Our Adolescent Partial Hospitalization program helps adolescents ages 13 to 17 who are struggling with emotional or social difficulties renew and rebuild their mental health.
We use evidence-based treatments personalized to each client’s needs and symptoms, including comprehensive therapy and medical evaluation services. We work collaboratively with parents and/or caregivers to help their teenager reach their goals.
Our warm and therapeutic environment helps clients build coping skills, improve distress tolerance, reduce or eliminate self harm and shorten hospital stays.

Why Choose Adolescent Partial Hospitalization at Vanderbilt
- Team approach
Our treatment teams includes psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses and mental health specialists. More caregivers means a better perspective on patients' illnesses and treatment plans. Our board-certified adolescent psychiatrists see patients on the day of admission and twice a week afterward. Doctors are available each day to manage medications and other medical needs. Patients benefit from the combined resources and experience of both Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
- Group-based treatment
Our patients take part in several groups. Life skills groups help adolescents learn how to manage mental health concerns. Therapeutic groups encourage giving and receiving feedback. Process groups allow patients to talk about their illnesses or conditions in a safe, therapeutic setting. Activity-based and nursing groups help with such needs as sleep hygiene, stress management and exercise. Other activities and meals always happen together.
- Family involvement
We know a child's issues can affect the whole family, so we invite families to work closely with our treatment team. Every patient receives family meetings twice per week during inpatient programs. We seek your input as we develop individual treatment plans made for your adolescent's unique needs.
- Excellent outcomes
Our patients' anxiety and depression symptoms decline, on average, about 40%. Our readmission rate is less than 5%, and our patient satisfaction rating is about 95%.
