Grief Support

The grief journey

Bereavement, or deep sorrow, is the ever-changing journey we experience through grief after the loss of a loved one. It looks different for everyone because there is no single, right way to grieve.

As you learn to walk with grief you may experience a variety of physical, emotional and spiritual struggles. Many people have found that grief occurs in stages, such as denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. But the grief journey often is not one stage after another. Instead, it may move you back and forth between emotional experiences. Though some days may be harder than others, this movement back and forth is healthy. Grief will be with you, but over time the pain of loss should ease.

A healthy grief journey can look like many things. You could:

  • learn to tell the story of your loved one
  • adapt to new practical concerns of life without a loved one
  • find trustworthy support navigating all the physical, emotional and spiritual experiences of loss

The resources available here may help you do those things. But they aren’t the only ways to help. If you would like to talk through your options, call your primary care physician. Or, you can find one here.
