MyOrthoHealth – Shoulder Pain for Employers

From Reduced Risk to Enhanced Rehab: Orthopaedic Care Re-imagined

When it comes to atraumatic shoulder pain, patients are too often rushed through costly advanced imaging and premature surgical procedures. One of the fundamental objectives of the MyOrthoHealth - Shoulder Pain bundle is to reduce unnecessary surgeries, which cost both the employee and employer. We support patients through physical therapy first, and proceed to advanced imaging and surgery only when we have deemed that these are the clinically appropriate next steps to take.

Vanderbilt is one of the first providers in the nation to offer a condition-based bundle for orthopaedics. With our atraumatic shoulder pain bundle, you will pay one blended rate for all patients who participate, regardless of whether they undergo surgery or take a non-surgical path. Our pricing assumes a surgical rate that is lower than the general market. This means we are at risk to get it right. As a result, employers enjoy reduced costs and predictable financial responsibilities, and we ensure patients get the right level of care, based on their individual circumstances.

What's Included

The MyOrthoHealth – Shoulder Pain bundle includes coordinated, proactive care from the initial visit and physical therapy to surgery and rehabilitation when needed.

Services include:

  • Concierge support from a dedicated patient navigator
  • Telehealth options for check-ins and follow-ups
  • Up to 16 weeks of physical therapy to determine whether a non-surgical approach will achieve desired results

If surgery is determined to be the most appropriate course of treatment, the bundle includes:

  • Office visits pre- and post-surgery
  • Specialist visits for surgery clearance
  • All activities related to appropriate procedure and hospital stay
  • Post-operative rehab
  • Low to no out-of-pocket costs

*Please note that this bundle is for atraumatic shoulder pain only. Shoulder pain caused by accident or injury is not included in the bundle.

Shoulder Pain Bundle Patient Avoids Surgery, Gets Back on Beat

How It Works

  • An interested candidate first speaks with our patient navigator, who confirms eligibility, explains the process and collects required information.
  • Once administrative eligibility has been confirmed, the patient will be scheduled for an ortho consult to confirm that shoulder pain is the correct diagnosis.
  • Once the shoulder pain diagnosis has been confirmed, we establish a personalized treatment plan for physical therapy. After four weeks, we evaluate the patient’s progress to determine whether to continue with a second round of therapy.
  • If physical therapy is not producing desired results, we will schedule a surgical consult and conduct advanced imaging.
  • If the individual is determined to be a good candidate for surgery, he or she will be scheduled for the most appropriate procedure.
  • Pre-surgery education delivered via telehealth helps the patient prepare for the procedure.
  • Surgery will typically involve an overnight hospital stay, or in some cases will be offered as an outpatient procedure.
  • Following surgery, patients will participate in up to 16 weeks of post-operative physical therapy, based on procedure and severity of diagnosis.
