MySpineHealth FAQs

What is the spine surgery bundle?

MySpineHealth provides a concierge clinical and service experience for spine surgery patients. The program is an innovative approach that coordinates and “bundles” all the services a spine surgery patient will receive as a part of their experience.

Types of spine procedure bundles offered:

  • Cervical Fusion
  • Lumbar Fusion
  • Laminectomy (Lumbar Decompression)

How will this new program benefit spine surgery patients?

This program provides spine patients with a high-touch care experience through an assigned Vanderbilt Health patient navigator, facilitated access to Vanderbilt Health providers, and an enhanced focus on convenience and communication with predictable out-of-pocket costs.

*Note: Vanderbilt Tullahoma Harton Hospital and Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital are not participating in bundles at this time.

How long does the MySpineHealth bundle last?

Bundle coverage begins upon bundle enrollment and from the initial patient consultation with an eligible VUMC surgeon. It ends six months post-surgery for cervical and lumbar fusion, and three months post-surgery for laminectomy.

What happens if I still have spine-related appointments after my bundle ends?

Any spine-related appointments and/or services that occur after the bundle ends will be billed to your traditional health insurance.

How should I prepare for my surgical consult?

Prior to your first appointment, we recommend reading the article below, "Reimagining Spine Surgery."

It's also helpful to come prepared with answers to the following questions:

  • How long have you had back and/or neck pain?
  • Did a provider recommend that you seek a surgical opinion for your ailment?
  • Have you had imaging as part of the evaluation of your back pain? What type of imaging was performed? When was it performed?
  • Have you attempted treatment for your condition?

My spine and/or neck pain is a result of an at-work accident. Can I still participate in MySpineHealth?

At-work or workers' compensation injuries are not eligible to participate in the MySpineHealth bundle.

Is spine surgery right for me?

While spine surgery is an effective treatment for the right patient, it’s not the right solution for everyone. The best way to determine if spine surgery is right for you is through an in-person consultation with one of our spine surgeons. A surgeon’s expertise and patient decision aids will help you think through the options and determine the best course of care for your unique spine health needs.

What happens if I don’t clinically qualify for spine surgery?

If you don’t clinically quality for surgery and the MySpineHealth bundle, our Spine Center offers a full spectrum of services that are much less invasive, including physical therapy, medications and injections. And you’ll still be in the care of Vanderbilt Health’s spine health experts.

Whom do I contact for questions regarding the bundle?

Our patient navigators are happy to answer your questions. Start a conversation in the Chat box below or schedule an appointment at this link.
