I was so impressed with the time Dr. Valenzuela took with me, especially as an add-on who was new to him. Rather than stopping at my surface issue, he took the time to understand the big picture and was able to provide objective exam info and treatment that helped me immensely - not only improving, but also in follow-up with other specialists, such as rheumatology. I had several questions and my medical history can be overwhelming to a new provider. Dr. Valenzuela was patient and understanding. I have complete confidence in his care.

Most of the visit was with the tech. The dr made me feel like I was wasting everyone's time because he said it might be 10 years before I needed surgery.

I was seen first by a medical student and then by Dr. Valenzuela. I enjoy interacting with the medical students and residents, as I usually learn something in the process. Dr. Valenzuela did my cataract surgery last year and I have been very pleased with the results. He has always been careful to answer any questions and address any concerns that I have. Highly recommend him.

He was arrogant. Diminishing the concerns I presented. I was very underwhelmed with him, and after he tried to make me feel like my concerns to advocate for the needed tests after they tried to cancel them, was unnecessarily because my perceived medical concerns about my eyes were minimal. Then when we got the scan back, lo and behold, my eyes had changed quite a bit and my pressures were higher than they've ever been, and something WAS in fact different. Made worse by how long it took me to get into Vanderbilt to begin with and the process tried to cancel the scans as it wasn't Vanderbilt new patient protocol. And as a result he had to offer laser eye surgery or at minimum increased medication an option. The whole experience with him left me in doubt. I did not feel comfortable that he would take the best care of me and my eyes, I am going to see if it's possible to find a better Doctor available who specializes in glaucoma that is more focused on the patient. I've never had an experience like this at Casey Eye Institute. I've seen multiple Drs there, and never had a negative experience like this. I don't need a dismissive Dr that I dont feel I can trust
