I am so grateful to Dr. Toye for her wise and empathetic care. She had already gone above and beyond during my hospitalization by doing an epidural infusion in the O.R., which apparently is typically an office procedure for her. Since I was hospitalized and was unable to sit or walk without extreme pain, there was no way for me to get to her office. At my follow-up visit, Dr. Toye was a great listener, showed care and concern for my condition, and did a focused exam which I think was helpful. She took the time to explain my condition in such a way that nobody else had done (or perhaps been able to do). She discussed treatment options, and included my concerns in the decision-making process. Perhaps most important of all, she believed my pain was real, trusted me, and provided me with some immediate pain relief options (and a clear medication regimen) that I desperately needed to make it through the day without severe pain. (Of course she also discussed medication taper of short-term meds.) She took the time to discuss future medication options if pain was long-lasting or became chronic. Additionally, Dr. Toye took the time to discuss what I might expect to see in terms of healing, including course. This was so reassuring to me. Lastly, I really appreciate that she discussed next steps and a made a follow-up plan (and visit). I am so grateful to have seen Dr. Toye and others on the pain management team. Thank you.
