Vanderbilt Center for Vulvar and Vaginal Disorders

The Vanderbilt Center for Vulvar and Vaginal Disorders treats non-cancerous conditions involving the vulva, vagina and cervix. These can include painful intercourse, changes due to menopause, precancerous changes, chronic yeast and bacterial infections, recurring vaginal discharge, vaginal dryness and various skin conditions. Any of these conditions can affect your life in very negative ways — from not being able to sleep to being embarrassed about odor to losing a sense of intimacy with your partner. Our team of caring experts can help.

Vulvar and Vaginal Disorders: Why Choose Vanderbilt

  • Highly skilled team. Disorders of the vulva, vagina and cervix have historically been misunderstood and inadequately addressed. Women can go for years without receiving a proper diagnosis — and without effective treatment. Our team opened the Vulvar Disorder Clinic to change the way you’re cared for. Its sole focus is giving you relief so you can regain the quality of life you’ve been missing. Our physician is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and has practiced for more than two decades. And our nurse practitioner is on the faculty of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Both have laser training and certification. And both are dedicated to helping you feel better and live better.
  • Collaborative care. Successful treatment of disorders of the vulva, vagina and cervix sometimes requires bringing other specialists on to your care team. At Vanderbilt, you’ll have access to any that might be needed, including those with expertise in dermatology, autoimmune disorders, gastroenterology, infectious disease, interventional pain and pelvic floor physical therapy. Whatever condition you’re experiencing, we’ll work with the right people to find and deliver the right solution.
  • Personalized care. No two women are the same. That’s why we evaluate your symptoms holistically. We look at your entire medical record, determine your hormonal background and communicate with your OB/GYN. Then we work to understand your specific goals regarding treatment. Together, we’ll figure out what’s going on and approach each symptom and condition one step a time.
  • Clinical trials. We’re dedicated to providing you the very latest in treatment options. As part of that, we offer access clinical trials that study new ways to diagnose and treat various disorders affecting the vulva, vagina and cervix.
  • Innovative research and treatment options. In addition to clinical trials, we also conduct our own research — particularly into conditions that tend to be harder to treat. It’s uncharted territory, and we’re the explorers.
