My 22-month-old was very upset during the appointment. I understood this to be developmentally appropriate for a toddler getting her eyes touched, so this didn't bother me as much as Dr. Donahue's dismissal of her feelings and behavior. Instead of doing anything to try to comfort her, he just talked to me over her screaming while assuring me that he was unphased. As a result, everyone was stressed and the communication was unclear. Dr. Donahue also gave some mixed messages regarding the urgency of my daughter's issue. In one breath he was telling me that her left eye may shut off If we don't Intervene now, and telling me to just wait and monitor in the next. Since we had to wait several months for our appointment, I had already been monitoring the problem for several months. When he told me to continue to watch and wait, it felt dismissive of my efforts and parental instincts, and honestly just seemed like he wants to generate more appointments.
