Colin Armstrong, Ph.D.

Colin is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology and is the Clinical Health Psychologist at the Vanderbilt Dayani Center.  He is also a Certified Professional Health & Wellness Coach.  His work focuses on mind-body wellness, including exercise motivation, weight management, stress management, and Positive Psychology (optimism, gratitude, life meaning, and practical strategies for generating lasting happiness).  He has a particular interest in how our own thoughts can sabotage our motivation, undermine our confidence and self-esteem, contribute to unhealthy eating, increase our stress, and harm our health. 
 
Colin received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, San Diego and completed his internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  He is published in such journals as The American Journal of Health Promotion, The Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, The Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, Perceptual and Motor Skills, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, Annals of Behavioral Medicine, and Psychology and Health. He has co-authored a book chapter on behavior change theories and strategies and is the author of evidence-based treatment guidelines on the topics of stress management and medication adherence / persistence. 

Colin is a frequent speaker at conferences and corporate events on such issues as Motivation for Healthy Living, Stress & Worry Management, Exercise Adherence and Medication Persistence.  He has provided seminars and workshops for a large number of national and international corporations including General Motors, AT&T, Marriott Corporation, McKesson Healthcare, Ingram Industries, Central Parking, Marsh and McClennan, AIG, Gaylord Entertainment, Whirlpool, Caterpillar, Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), The GAP, Hertz Corporation, Deloitte & Touche, Teledyne Electronics, and Louisiana Pacific (LP).  He has also taught seminars for various community organizations and government agencies including Rotary International, Leadership Nashville, The American Heart Association, The Girl Scouts of American, The American Lung Association, The American Cancer Society, AARP, The Internal Revenue Service, The Federal Reserve Bank, and the Metro Police Academy

Colin has a passion for helping individuals make positive changes to their lives.
