Mark Kroll, MD
Mark Kroll, M.D., was recruited from private practice in July of 2007 to join the Vanderbilt Eye Institute as a fellowship trained refractive and anterior segment surgeon. He specializes in cataract surgery, LASIK, PRK, and other complicated anterior segment surgery. Dr. Kroll received his medical degree from Loma Linda University in California. He completed his residency training in ophthalmology as well as his fellowship training in refractive and anterior segment surgery at Loma Linda University under the guidance of world renowned cataract and refractive surgeon, Dr. Howard Gimbel. He is certified in the use of the most advanced technology in laser vision correction, including the INTRALASE (bladeless) laser and wavefront CustumVue treatment with the VISX Star S4 Excimer laser. Dr. Kroll is a board-certified ophthalmologist and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Uyen Tran, MD
Uyen Tran, M.D., joined the Vanderbilt Eye Institute as a board certified fellowship-trained corneal and refractive surgeon in July 2002. Dr. Tran grew up in the Washington DC area. She received her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. She then went on to do her surgical internship at Georgetown University and completed residency in Ophthalmology at the Medical College of Virginia. Her fellowship in Cornea and Refractive surgery was done at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Tran specializes in the management of corneal and external diseases, corneal transplantation, cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Tran has extensive skills and experience in the state-of-the-art forms of anterior segment surgery- including Bladeless Wavefront guided Custom LASIK. She is the Director of the Cornea/ Refractive Surgery division at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute and is also the Associate Medical Director of the Nashville Eye Bank.
Dr. Tran lives in the Green Hills area of Nashville with her husband, Dr. Michael Pilla, and their four dogs: Beau, Maxie, Scooter, and Pico. She enjoys Pilates, Yoga, and shopping!
Daniel S. Weikert, MD
Daniel S. Weikert, M.D., has been a member of the Vanderbilt community since 1987. He first attended Vanderbilt medical school and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Vanderbilt Department of Ophthalmology. Following a twelve year career in private practice and a clinical instructor at Vanderbilt he joined the faculty as an assistant professor full time at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute. His area of clinical interest include Lasik refractive surgery, cataract surgery and refractive lens implants. He also focuses on sports ophthalmology and he has proudly served as the ophthalmologist for the Nashville Predators and Tennessee Titans. Dr. Weikert also enjoys performing medical and routine eye exams in his three offices in Bellevue, Franklin, and Springhill.
Dr. Weikert is board-certified in ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Nashville Academy of Ophthalmology, and Fellow of American College surgeons. In his free time he enjoys traveling, sports and spending time with his three kids.
