Kidney Care for Diabetes: Why Choose Vanderbilt

  • rocket, missile, Highly skilled team
    Highly skilled doctors

Our team is led by specialists who have been studying and treating kidney disease in patients with diabetes for more than 30 years. We take a leadership role in creating national healthcare policies relating to kidney care. We serve with national and international societies to develop treatment guidelines. Most of the Vanderbilt Center for Kidney Disease’s patients have diabetes, and caring for that many people over the years means we have vast experience treating complications arising from kidney disease and diabetes.

    Team approach

Our team includes doctors, a nurse practitioner and a dietitian dedicated to patients with kidney disease. Their combined knowledge means expert care for you. We also work with specialists in endocrinology and cardiology, because our patients usually have overlapping illnesses. Our electronic medical record system helps our team share information and make decisions about the best treatment for all aspects of your health.

    Recognized care

U.S. News & World Report ranks our nephrology team among the best in the country. We have been involved in more clinical trials that relate to the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease in patients with diabetes than any other academic medical center in the country.

  • survey, clipboard, Clinical trials
    Clinical trials

We have a clinical trial center devoted to kidney disease, typically relating to diabetes. We are often the leaders of trials being carried out nationally and internationally. Because we are an academic medical center, you may be able to participate in research that explores new treatments. These clinical trials are not widely available elsewhere. In fact, we often perform or manage the research that leads to treatment guidelines that are put into practice in the clinic. Our doctors provide the most current, data-backed treatment.
