Speech-language pathologists at Pi Beta Phi Rehabilitation Institute (PBPRI) are masters and doctoral level clinicians who have specialized training in the assessment and treatment of cognitive, communication and swallowing disorders resulting from neurological injuries. Cognitive and communication disorders may affect a person’s ability to perform community, school and work activities. Thus, emphasis is placed upon the development of skills necessary to resume the highest level of functioning possible in returning to social, academic, and vocational settings.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)Pi Beta Phi Rehabilitation Institute offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment for individuals with severe communication impairments using AAC systems. Examples of AAC systems may range from a simple communication board that allows the individual to point to letters or pictures to a high-tech tool such as a speech-generating device using different access methods including switches and eye gaze. "I was hit by a truck while riding my bicycle. Thankfully, I survived, but I needed physical, speech, and occupational therapies, in order for me to return to my daily responsibilities and work. I had the privilege to work with the therapists at Pi Beta Phi Rehab, and I was very impressed with their professionalism and friendliness. Their hard work played a major role in my recovery. I am all better now. Thank you, Pi Beta Phi Rehab.” – Yik Yang
