Volunteering for Undergraduates

 Volunteers serve in many capacities at Vanderbilt University Hospital.  If you are interested in being considered as a Hospital college volunteer, we ask you to commit to volunteering for 2 consecutive periods on a weekly basis for a total of 48 hours.  For example:  Fall / Spring, Spring / Summer, Summer / Fall

How do you become a Volunteer?

  • Attend a Volunteer Information Session. 
     
  • Complete an online Volunteer Application.  If you have trouble accessing the application or need a hard copy, please contact 615-936-3078.
  • Schedule Volunteer Interview when you attend the Volunteer Information Session 
  • Provide copies of immunization papers listing dates and results of the following:
    • 2 TB Skin tests (1 within the past 12 months and 1 within the past 3 months)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella) 2 since age of 12 months or 1 since age 18 years)
    • Varicella Titer (lab report showing positive results or 2 Varivax vaccines at least 4 weeks apart)
  • Attend General Volunteer Training Session.
  • Attend Department Orientation (to be scheduled with departmental supervisor).
  • Begin Volunteering!

College Students Volunteering for Summer Short Term

Our summer short term volunteering program is designed for college students who live locally and attend college out of town or out of state.

  • Summer College volunteers need to be available for the summer months and are asked to complete a 10 week (25 hours) volunteer comitment.
  • Summer short term volunteers are not required to attend an information session. 
  • Summer College volunteers need to complete and mail their application, questionnaire and copies of current immunization papers to Volunteer Services no later than May 8, 2009.
  • Upon receipt of your volunteer application, questionnaire and immunization papers, you will be notified by Volunteer Services to schedule a personal interview and will be notified which immunizations you will need to have before your interview.
    • Required immunizations are:  2 TB Skin test, date completed & results (1 within the past 12 months and 1 within the past 3 months); MMR (dates of 2 since age 12 months or 1 since age 18 years); and Varicella Titer (lab report showing positive results or 2 Varivax vaccines at least 4 weeks apart).
  • Personal interviews must be completed no later than Tuesday, May 26, 2009.
