Volunteering for Adults/Non-Undergraduates

Volunteers serve in many capacities at Vanderbilt University Hospital.  If you are interested in being considered as a VUH volunteer and you are 18 years of age or older, we ask you to commit to a two or three hour volunteer shift, once a week, for six months (minimum of 48 hours).  We have weekday, limited evening, and limited weekend volunteer opportunities available.

How do you become a Volunteer?

Attend a Volunteer Information Session
Complete online Application and Questionnaire (prior to Information Session).  If you have trouble accessing the application, or need a hard copy mailed to you, please contact 615-936-3078.
Schedule Volunteer Interview at Volunteer Information Session.
Obtain Immunizations - All hospital volunteers must complete or have prior documentation of the following:

  • Two TB Skin tests (1 within the past 12 months and 1 within the past 3 months)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella) 2 since age of 12 months or 1 since age 18 years)
  • Varicella Titer (lab report showing positive results or 2 Varivax vaccines at least 4 weeks apart
  • Hepatitis B (for selected assignments)
    Note:  We will refer non-undergraduate volunteers to the Vanderbilt Occupational Health Clinic for any necessary immunizations and will pay for these based on the fulfillment of the volunteer commitment.

Attend General Volunteer Training Session.
Attend Department Orientation (to be scheduled with departmental supervisor)
