Whether they are working in the gift shop, helping a child pick out a toy in the play room, giving a parent directions, or just offering a reassuring smile, volunteers make a difference. Book/Activity Cart
Provide books and activities for hospitalized children on the acute care units by taking cart room to room.

Department: Child Life
Volunteers Needed: 11:30a-1:30p M-F; 10:30a-noon Sat-Sun
Volunteer Shifts: 1 1/2 hour shift weekly
Minimum Age: 18 years

Champ's Corner Store
Champ’s Corner Store consists of The Safety Store and the Baby of Mine Store.  The Safety Store, first of its kind in Tennessee and open to the public, serves families in Middle Tennessee and across the state offering a variety of low cost home safety products for all children, including children with health care needs or disabilities. Products range from bicycle helmets to child passenger safety seats and cabinet locks.  The Baby of Mine Store offers patient families and staff the opportunity to buy low-cost items to support breastfeeding. Items such as manual and electric breast pumps and parts, nursing bras, nursing covers, Boppy™ pillows, MotherLove Herbal Supplements, and more are sold.  Volunteers assist customers with selection of products and other tasks related to store operations.

Volunteers Needed: 11a-1p M-F
Volunteer Shifts: 2 hour shift once a week
Minimum Age: 16 years

Child Life Playrooms
Supervise play and interact with patients and families in the 0-4 year old playroom, 5-11 year old playroom, 12-18 year old activity room, Myelo-Suppression playroom the Sibling playroom. Volunteers also work with child life staff to ensure that toys are safe and clean prior to offering them to children and siblings.

Department: Child Life
Volunteers Needed: 9:30a-noon; 1:30pm-4pm; or 6pm-8pm M-Th
9:30a-noon or 1:30p-4p Friday
10a-noon or 2p-4p Sat-Sun
Volunteer Shifts: Monday-Friday, 2 1/2 hour shift once a week; Saturday and Sunday, 2 hour shift every weekend or 2 hour shift bi-weekly (1st and 3rd weeks or 2nd and 4th weeks)
Minimum Age: 18 years

Diagnostic Imaging
Provide age-appropriate activities in the waiting area for patients and siblings.  Work with child life staff to ensure that toys are safe and clean prior to offering them to children and siblings.

Department: Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology
Volunteers Needed: 10a-noon and 1p-3p M-F (busiest times are 8a-noon M-Th)
Volunteer Shifts: 2 hour shift once a week
Minimum Age: 18 years

Family Resource Center (FRC)
Assist patients, families and staff as they access information about a child's medical condition or disability. The FRC contains a health library, a family business center and a toy lending library. Volunteers assist with medical research, assembly of patient education packets, delivery of E-Cards and other tasks as needed.

Volunteers Needed: 8:30a-4:30p M-F
Volunteer Shifts: 2-3 hour shift once a week
Minimum Age: 18 years

Friends Shop
Located on the second floor of the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, The Friends Shop offers a positive shopping experience for patients, families and employees of Children’s Hospital. Proceeds from sales are used by the Friends of Children’s Hospital to support programs and services provided by Children’s Hospital. Volunteers assist customers with selection of gifts, gift wrapping, delivery of gifts to children and families in the hospital and other tasks associated with the store operation.

Volunteers Needed: 9a-5- M-F
Volunteer Shifts: 2-3 hour shift once a week
Minimum Age: 18 years

Guest Ambassador
Assist staff in identifying patients and families who need assistance while visiting our hospital; meeting, greeting and escorting patients, families and visitors during their visits

Department: Guest Services
Volunteers Needed: 9a-4p M-F
Volunteer Shifts: 2-3 hour shift once a week
Minimum Age: 18 years

Pediatric Emergency Room
Support families and children during their visit by offering blankets, passing out toys, remaining in room providing play activities with children and/or play with siblings in waiting room areas. Volunteers also work with child life staff to ensure that toys are safe and clean prior to offering them to children and siblings.

Department: Child Life
Volunteers Needed: 2p-midnight daily, except Tuesdays
Volunteer Shifts: 2 hour shift once a week
Minimum Age: 18 years
Special Note: Hepatitis B series recommended

School Program
Assist school teacher by providing quality educational services to school age patients (Kindergarten-12th grade). Volunteers must be college graduates with teaching experience, or college students with an interest in teaching/education and prior tutoring experience or special knowledge in an academic area.

Department: Child Life
Volunteers Needed: mornings and afternoons, M-F
Volunteer Shifts: 2-3 hour shift once a week
Minimum Age: 18 years
Special Note: Volunteers must meet with teachers before starting and must be familiar with "Tips for School" program volunteer sheet. Program runs August-May each year.

Surgery
Provide age appropriate activities in the surgery waiting area for patients and siblings. Work with child life staff to ensure that toys are safe and clean prior to offering them to children and siblings.

Volunteers Needed: 7a-noon M-F
Volunteers Shifts: 2-3 hour shift once a week
Minimum Age: 18 years

Toy Activity Volunteer
Support staff by assisting in monitoring and maintaining clean patient toys, material and activity resources.

Volunteers Needed: 10a-noon; 2p-4p; or 6p-8p M-F; 10a-noon or 2p-4p Sat-Sun
Volunteer Shifts: 2-3 hour shift once a week

Doctors' Office Tower: Outpatient Clinics

Activity Cart
Provide, facilitate and supervise age appropriate play activities for patients and siblings in the Doctor’s Office Tower waiting rooms.

Department: Child Life
Volunteers Needed: 9a-noon or 1p-4p M-Th; 9a-noon on Friday
Volunteer Shift: 2 hour shift once a week
Minimum Age: 18 years

Diabetes Clinic
Visit and provide age appropriate activities for patients in the Diabetes Clinic and waiting room area.

Volunteer Shifts: 2 hour shift once a week

Jo's Reach Out and Read
Support children and families in the waiting area by reading books to children in groups or one-on-one. To learn more about the Jo’s Reach Out and Read Book Club click here.
