About the Heart Transplant Program at Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt University Medical Center performed its first heart transplant in April 1985. Since its beginning, the program's total experience exceeds700 heart transplants. We provide heart transplantation for adult and pediatric patients. Vanderbilt is one of only four medical centers in the United States approved to provide heart transplantation to the veteran population. In fact, approximately one-third of the annual heart transplants performed at Vanderbilt are patients from the Nashville-VA Medical Center.
The Vanderbilt Heart Transplant Program is a Medicare-designated program. Such designation is awarded after a panel of experts in immunology, cardiology, cardiac surgery, and transplantation biology, evaluated our outcomes, experience, expertise and institutional commitment.
