What is Heart Failure?

Heart failure is a condition in which the heart does not pump as strongly as it should. It is weaker than normal and has difficulty pumping blood to the rest of the body. Over time, the weakened heart works harder and adds more stress to the heart muscle walls, causing them to stretch and weaken even more.

The Heart Transplant Program at Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt Medical Center performed its first heart transplant in April 1985. Today we perform approximately 20 transplants each year. We provide heart transplantation for adult and pediatric patients. Since its beginning, the program's total experience exceeds 500 heart transplants. Read more.
