Outpatient Clinics
Each organ has its own outpatient clinic for adults within The Vanderbilt Clinic (TVC). Working within TVC are over 800 physicians in over 95 different specialties. Once you're referred to Vanderbilt for transplant evaluation, you'll be referred to a specific outpatient clinic that specializes in your disease and/or organ. These clinics provide a full range of diagnostic and treatment services. There you'll be introduced to your transplant team that may include physicians, social workers, nurse practitioners, and possibly a transplant surgeon who will talk with you about your health and begin the evaluation process.
If you undergo transplant surgery, you'll receive follow-up care in the same outpatient clinic you went to for evaluation. Initially you will visit your clinic frequently, depending upon the organ and how your body is adjusting to it and your new medications. Over time and with success, you'll visit the outpatient clinic less frequently and see your personal physician more often.
