Volunteers

The Department of Pastoral Care has a Volunteer Program.  Volunteers are given an opportunity to be a resource of hospitality and spiritual support to patients and their families in a variety of faith traditions.

Field Education

The Department of Pastoral Care serves as a field education placement for graduate and divinity school students interested in pastoral care in the hospital setting.  This placement usually requires 10 hours per week and the student receives direct supervision and training from a staff chaplain.  The placement prepares students for C.P.E. as well as pastoral care in congregational and institutional settings.

Residency Positions

A colloraborative program of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, St. Thomas Hospital, Baptist Hospital, and Alive Hospice, administrated through St. Thomas Hospital.

• Form the pastoral person
• Develop pastoral competence

Stipend:  5 positions @ $27,000 each plus health care insurance

Dates:  September 1, 2009 - August 31, 2010
