Research Innovations
At Vanderbilt Orthopaedics, research is as fundamental to us as it is to you. In our laboratories dedicated to the research of biomechanics and orthopaedic care, we steadily progress in our efficiency in treating you quickly and with the utmost quality.
Two laboratories are currently devoted to innovations in biomechanics and its relation to orthopaedic processes. Another participates solely in bone disease analysis and the observation of mineral metabolism. Used by a number of employees, including students involved in a work-study program to senior orthopaedic physicians, the research facilities at Vanderbilt Orthopaedics are unrivaled in the state of Tennessee.
Research Outcomes
Evidence-Based Medicine. At Vanderbilt, we practice evidence-based medicine, in which we assess the quality of our practice and treatment through evidence supplied via the scientific method. EBM seeks to clarify the parts of medical practice that are fundamentally subject to scientific methods and to apply these methods to ensure the best prediction of outcomes in medical treatment. Only with the expertise at Vanderbilt is this policy reinforced and carried out.
Current Research. The various laboratories of the Orthopaedic department constantly discover revolutionary methods of treating patients. Current focuses include the kinematics of joints and body responses to bone implants. Follow the links below to navigate through our wide and varied research programs.
Vanderbilt's Randomized Controlled Trials
As science has progressed, public expectations have risen, and government health budgets have become ever tighter, therefore at Vanderbilt, we undergo clinical research trials to eliminate bias and discover any plausible side effects of treatments. These randomized studies provide a multitude of possible scenarios that physicians might have to deal with in the near future, providing an awareness of all possible factors in a medical emergency. It is through these trials that Vanderbilt has triumphed as the leading provider of health care in the state of Tennessee.
