Pheochromocytomas are tumors of the adrenal glands, which sit atop the kidneys. The adrenal glands produce “fight or flight” hormones such as adrenaline. When a tumor develops here, it can cause the glands to make too much adrenaline, causing symptoms that can be debilitating.
Vanderbilt has extensive experience in evaluating adrenal masses and is well-equipped to guide patients through treatment and recovery.
Diagnosis includes urine and blood testing as well as imaging.
Very high blood pressure
If a tumor is diagnosed, treatment will aim to control the surplus adrenaline, and then the tumor can be removed.
