H1N1 Information Page
The outbreak of human cases of H1N1 flu virus infection continues to grow in the United States and elsewhere. The current U.S. case count may be found at the Centers for Disease Control Swine Flu Web Site. The CDC advises that most people will not have immunity to this new virus and that additional cases, hospitalizations, and deaths may occur in the coming days and weeks.
Vanderbilt LifeFlight has implemented precautions for patients with known or suspected H1N1 virus. As a referring agency, please notify FlightCom at the time of the request to alert the crew for flu precautions.
- Wash your hands. Before and after every patient contact!
- Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze.
- Get a flu shot AND get the H1N1 vaccine when it is available. You can’t get the flu from the vaccine.
- Stay healthy. Fatigue, stress and general poor health makes you more vulnerable to the flu.
- If you have any flu symptoms, STAY HOME. Don’t spread sickness to your co-workers or your patients.
- If your patient has flu symptoms, wear a mask and tell those who will be taking care of them to do the same.
