Vanderbilt Medical Center - Vanderbilt LASIK

After Your Surgery

Your vision will be significantly clear, if not already 20/20, on the day after the surgery. The healing process is natural and usually quick.

Some patients have reported feeling eye irritation for a maximum of 48 hours. Others experience light sensitivity and halos around certain objects at night or a burning or itchy sensation. Your eyes will feel somewhat tired and dry, so you will need lubricating drops to keep them moist during the healing process. Most patients return to work the next day, but you may need one to three days to resume all normal activities.

On the day after the procedure, we will check to be sure that your eyes are healing properly.

Your vision may fluctuate slightly for weeks to months before stabilizing. Although you should not experience long-term discomfort, your eyes may take several months to completely heal after laser treatment. Since the All Laser LASIK procedure is precision driven, regression is minimized, relative to traditional LASIK. However, if enhancements are necessary to correct a significant regression, they are performed at three to six months post-operatively.

The cost for all post-operative care and enhancements needed within the first year is included in your original fee.

Refractive surgery, such as LASIK, is considered to be a permanent procedure. The surgery, however,  will not prevent any age-related conditions such as presbyopia or cataracts. These conditions would be treated independently using the normal protocol.
