Laser Vision Correction
All Laser Blade-Free LASIK
LASIK (Laser-Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis) is a form of refractive laser eye surgery that has been used successfully for vision correction since the early 1990’s – offering over 8.2 million people freedom from glasses and contact lenses.
Using the most advanced and clinically safe technology available, the surgeons at Vanderbilt LASIK perform LASIK using an all-laser, blade-free procedure, which delivers outstanding results -enabling most patients to enjoy “high definition” 20/20 vision – and beyond.
Designed for your individual vision dynamics, this integrated technology solution is customized just for you and offers a safe, easy way to better vision.
About the Procedure.
Step 1. Creating your personal vision profile- WaveScan Before your surgery, a series of tests will be performed to determine your candidacy for LASIK. The WaveScan™ wavefront technology will be used to capture the subtle variations in the way light passes through your eyes to determine the individual characteristics of your vision. These variations can be as unique as your fingerprint. Using this digital information, a custom treatment is designed for each of your eyes. This truly personalized procedure creates the map and treatment plan for pinpoint precision in your upcoming surgery.
Step 2. Making the corneal flap – Intralase - A BLADE-FREE APPROACH The surgeons at Vanderbilt LASIK use an advanced technology called the IntraLase™ method. This is a 100% blade-free approach to performing the first step in your LASIK surgery - creating your corneal flap, which is a thin flap of tissue that the physician folds back to perform LASIK. The IntraLase™ laser is a highly specialized laser that uses extremely short bursts of light in the near infrared range to form a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles just beneath the surface of your eye. This allows the physician to lift the corneal flap by separating the tissue where the bubbles have formed. The IntraLase™ method achieves accuracy and safety that cannot be matched by traditional methods, which require surgical blades, or microkeratomes, to create the flap. The corneal flap will be replaced after surgery and reattaches itself naturally without the use of stitches.
Step 3. Laser Vision Correction – CustomVue LASIK The final step of your surgery is the actual laser procedure itself to correct your vision. The data from your personal profile is used by the VISX StarS4 laser to provide custom laser corrective treatment designed specifically for your eyes. This custom treatment reduces postoperative aberrations of the eye and provides better quality of vision than would be generally expected with non-customized treatments.
