1. What makes up Vanderbilt Medical Center?
The medical center comprises Vanderbilt University Hospital and clinics, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Departments in the School of Medicine (such as Dept. of Medicine, Dept. of Pathology, Section of Surgical Sciences, and many others), Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Research on Human Development, and Bill Wilkerson Center.

2. What is the Canby Robinson Society?
The Canby Robinson Society (CRS) was created in 1978 to honor and encourage those who give financial support to the education, research and patient care programs of the medical center. With over 2,500 members, the CRS is the largest donor society at Vanderbilt University. All gifts of $1,000 or more to the medical center qualify a donor for membership in the Canby Robinson Society.

Dr. George Canby Robinson was dean of the School of Medicine from 1920-1928. He transformed the traditional physician-apprentice form of education into a modern university medical school format with a science-based curriculum and a full-time faculty. He oversaw the design of a new medical center building with teaching, patient care and research capabilities under one roof. This innovative concept was to be emulated across the country by other leading medical centers.

 3. What is the Julia Hereford Society?
The Julia Hereford Society is the premier donor society for Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. It is named in honor of Julia Hereford, a 1936 graduate and dean of the school from 1949 to 1965. To obtain membership one needs to make an annual gift of $1,000 or more to the School of Nursing.

Graduates who have completed their degrees within the last ten years are eligible for membership at this level with a gift of $500 annually. Through the generous support of donors, School of Nursing students accomplish their education goals and play an instrumental leadership role in meeting the health care needs of patients throughout the country. Every Julia Hereford Society gift goes directly toward scholarship assistance.

 4. What is the Nicholas Hobbs Society?
The Nicholas Hobbs Society, made up of donors who give $1,000 or more annually to the Kennedy Center or one of its programs, recognizes the exceptional position of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center as a leader in unlocking the mysteries of development and learning. Through gifts and volunteer resources, Nicholas Hobbs Society members advance groundbreaking research in human development.

Forty years ago, Nicholas Hobbs, Ph.D., envisioned a center focusing on research related to human development and developmental issues. A pioneer in furthering our understanding of human development, he was founding director of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center.
