But they face longer years of study and a larger debt — averaging $117,300 for physicians and $85,000 for advanced practice nurses.

The School of Medicine ranks among the nation’s top five institutions in scholarly citations that impact the original research advancing scientific progress worldwide. At a time when many programs are shrinking, Vanderbilt research is recording remarkable growth in funding and therapeutic discovery.              Discovery Grants 

Donor-funded Discovery Grants allow bright young researchers to pursue exciting discoveries in basic and clinical science — aiding our understanding of disease processes and leading to better methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment. For Vanderbilt physicians and scientists this seed money not only yields early results, it germinates the ideas that grow to large federally funded projects aimed at transformative breakthroughs in care.
