Low Vision

Low vision is eyesight in the range of 20/70 to 20/8000 that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. Individuals with low vision can see only within a narrow field of view directly ahead or cannot clearly perceive sharp visual details.

Vanderbilt offers comprehensive treatment to children and adults with low vision. Some of our professionals are currently involved with a landmark program called Project PAVE (Providing Access to the Visual Environment) in conjunction with the Tennessee Department of Education and Vanderbilt University. This offers low-vision education and training for children and young adults up to age 21.

Low Vision Readers:  Lighted reading glasses for those people with low vision.
