Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes is a disease in which the body stops producing insulin. It is caused by loss of cells of the pancreas that are responsible for producing insulin and releasing it into the bloodstream. Type 1 Diabetes is often called juvenile-onset diabetes. It is most common in childhood and adolescence but adults can develop this type as well.
People with Type 1 Diabetes must use insulin to control their blood glucose level. Other medications are not effective as the body needs insulin to live.
People with Type 1 Diabetes have a higher risk of thyroid disease, adrenal disease, celiac sprue, and other autoimmune diseases.
