The Endocrinology-Diabetes training program at Vanderbilt offers a 3-year research-intensive program for those individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in academic Endocrinology and Metabolism. The program, directed by Dr. James M. May, is intended to provide a firm grounding in clinical endocrinology, as well as an intensive research experience. Vanderbilt has been training endocrine fellows since 1959, and there are over 180 graduates of the program. Many of these program graduates have held leadership positions at academic institutions in the United States and around the world, while others practice endocrinology in university-affiliated groups. Funding is typically available for two trainees in the clinical (first) year, and 2-3 trainees in their research years at any one time.
