Barbara Forbes, M.S., A.P.N., G.N.P.

Barbara Forbes directs the Dayani Institute for Smoking Cessation and Prevention. She conducts individual and group tobacco cessation counseling, provides functional evaluations for potential members of Dayani’s Senior Wellness Program, and coordinates volunteers. In addition, she is an adjunct faculty member at the School of Nursing, where she mentors and teaches graduate nursing students. Barbara received her M.S. in Nursing from Vanderbilt University and is certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner (GNP). She is also involved with Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Human Participant Protections Education for Research from the National Cancer Institute. Barbara loves working with an older population; as a former smoker, she takes pride in assisting other tobacco users to receive the benefits of a healthier lifestyle.

Barbara published a study in Military Medicine and one in Preventive Medicine. She has presented at national conferences for: ACSM, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Heart Association, Agency on Aging, National Association for Tobacco and Health, and internationally at the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco.
