Why do people smoke?

Tobacco continues to be a user-friendly substance. It can be easily purchased in several locations, has a positive drug effect, is reasonable inexpensive, and although becoming less, is still culturally acceptable in many populations. Tobacco represents a "rite of passage" to young people who often intimate their family members, friends or celebrities. Tobacco companies use the media to associate their product with glamour, success, acceptability, popularity, and pleasure.
