As a result of this and other lifestyle factors, obesity is quickly becoming a concern for the majority of our population. Currently, 65% of U.S. residents are overweight or obese.
Being overweight is not just about physical appearance. It puts you at risk for many chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and some cancers.
Many of these conditions can be prevented or controlled by choosing a healthier lifestyle that includes good nutrition and physical activity. If you are overweight or obese, research has shown that decreasing weight by 10% can greatly improve blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar, while also decreasing your risk of developing the above mentioned chronic conditions.
