Class Descriptions
Mind & Body
Yoga - These classes incorporate different poses, relaxation and meditation techniques for an overall mind/body workout that will strengthen and stretch muscles, and leave you feeling refreshed and invigorated. (Any Level)
Active Yoga - This is an energetic yoga class that moves more rapidly from pose to pose than traditional classes. Familiarity with basic yoga poses is recommended for those who take this class. (Any Level)
Tai Chi - This class is based on an Eastern martial art form and is designed to improve balance, strength, and agility. (Any Level)
Senior Tai Chi - This class is designed for seniors and beginners. This class focuses on improving balance, strength, and agility. (Beginner Friendly)
Qi Gong - Qi Gong is a slow, rhythmic exercise, based on martial arts, that challenges and invigorates both the mind and body. (Beginners and All Levels)
Forza - Samurai sword training is the "cutting edge" in the world of fitness. Using a wooden bokken (sword), students perform basic striking techniques with lunges and squats that tone and strengthen arms, chest, back, and legs. Creative fighting sequences done to music create a movement meditation that blasts stress, improves balance, focus, and intuitive sense. (All Levels)
Laughter Yoga - This is a unique 45-minute class that combines the breathing exercises of yoga with the healing benefits of laughter. Certified Life Coach, Kristina Giard, guides these interactive sessions designed to help participants relax, reduce stress and work their core muscles while laughing. This class is recommended for everyone, including those with physical restrictions. No yoga experience is necessary. Come join our Friday night “happy hour”.
Cardiovascular/Strength
Cycle - A group fitness class on stationary bicycles in which participants ride hills, flat roads, and race in the Tour de France. Non-cyclists are welcome. You determine how hard you will ride (all levels).
Cycle Circuit - The group cycling class is for those who want to learn basic cycling techniques, and bike set-up, as well as simple upper body strengthening (all levels, beginners encouraged to attend).
Senior Stretch & Tone - A chair-based exercise class that focuses on improving balance, strength and flexibility. Those with orthopedic limitations are welcome (any level, beginner friendly).
Basic Training - This class is a mix of step, low impact, dance and athletic drills combined to give you a great cardiovascular and strength workout. Instructors use Resist-A-Balls, weights, tubing and balance trainers to keep boredom to a minimum in this fast-paced, beginner-friendly workout (all levels).
Pilates I - This dance-based class incorporates both standing and floor exercises to improve muscular strength and endurance, especially in the abdomen and lower back (all levels).
Pilates II - This class offers the similar benefits as Pilates I however is offered at an intermediate/advanced level.
Awesome Abs - A power packed 15 minute session that focuses on strengthening the "core" muscles of the abdomen and lower back area. Great for those in a time crunch (all levels).
Step & Pump - A circuit style class, which incorporates step aerobics and strength training. Easy-to-follow choreography makes this class great for beginners (all levels).
Step II - This fast-paced step aerobics class offers more exciting choreography and dance patterns to challenge participants while giving them a great cardiovascular workout (intermediate/advanced levels).
New York Ballet Workout - Taught by a former professional dancer from New York, this class uses basic ballet exercises to tone and strengthen muscles and improve posture and balance. No dance experience is necessary (all levels).
Aquatic Classes
Aqua Aerobics - A fast-paced shallow-water pool class that uses everything from dance routines to athletic drills to improve cardiovascular fitness. Most classes also incorporate strength training using barbells, noodles and resistance bands. Non-swimmers are welcome (all levels).
"New You" - A relaxed-pace aqua class for those who are new to exercise or who are beginning to workout again following an illness or injury. This class is designed to accommodate those with chronic conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and multiple sclerosis. Read More
Senior Aqua - A fun-filled, joint-friendly aerobic and strength workout in a shallow-water pool. Non-swimmers are welcome in this class (all levels).
Aqua Tone - This 45 minute, joint-friendly class is designed to improve muscle strength and endurance using various types of equipment, as well as the resistance of the water. Non-swimmers are welcome (all levels).
Moms-To-Be - New mothers, as well as moms-to-be, should try this light aerobic and strength workout to keep them feeling healthy and fit. Regular aquatic exercise may relieve the low-back and leg discomfort often associated with pregnancy.
Swimming Lessons - The Vanderbilt Dayani Center offers a great group Adult Learn to Swim Class. Each swim session is five weeks long and is held two days a week (Mondays & Wednesdays) from 9:15 am - 10:15 am. These classes are designed primarily for beginners. The cost is $65 for non-members and $35 for members.
