Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center

Patient Education, Outreach & Advocacy

We help our patients through their cancer journeys by providing education, advocacy, community outreach and cancer wellness events. We strive to help patients make informed decisions with the best information possible.

Cancer Patient Education and Resources

We help patients and caregivers make informed decisions about their cancer care.

The Patient and Family Resource Center is a one-stop resource for anyone who has been touched by cancer. It includes one-on-one help, free brochures, pamphlets and access to online information.

Every cancer patient treated at Vanderbilt-Ingram gets an educational notebook tailored to their needs for care, resources and support. For more information, call (615) 322-9799.

Patient Advocacy

We help engage cancer survivors and caregivers throughout their journeys. Our patient advocates offer their experience, perspectives and skills to help support every patient's needs.

Research Advocacy

We help advocates contribute to cutting-edge cancer research that will benefit tomorrow's patients. We have opportunities to advance research in:

The Hope Connection

The Hope Connection connects patients and their families with trained volunteers who have personal experience with cancer. Volunteers are here to listen, talk and offer support any time before, during and after cancer treatment. Learn more about Hope Connection.

Advisory Roles

Advisory advocates serve on committees and other groups that improve the patient experience at Vanderbilt-Ingram. For more information, call (615) 936-1072.

Community Outreach

We put on many community education programs each year, often partnering with community, state and national cancer-related organizations. Programs include:

  • Cancer screenings
  • Health fairs
  • Cancer education/awareness programs
  • Survivorship programs

Cancer Queens!

We're proud to present Cancer Queens! A Cancer Prevention Musical Revue, a live show featuring skits, songs and dance routines that covers educational cancer topics.

Targeting Cancer in Men

Targeting Cancer in Men is an engaging presentation about reducing cancer in men. Understanding lifestyle choices and screening can help men avoid developing or dying from many types of cancer.

According to the National Cancer Institute, a third of all cancers are preventable. The sessions may be tailored to align with other health-related programs or they can stand alone. Both men and women are encouraged to participate in the sessions. For more information, email menscancer.prevention@vanderbilt.edu or call (615) 936-2299.
